101 Road Tales: From the Pages of Rider Magazine by Clement Salvadori
Popular motojournalist Clement Salvadori has been sharing his stories from the road with the readers of Rider magazine since 1988. Now, 101 of those engaging tales have been brought together in one book, cleverly illustrated by his long-time friend Gary Brown.
Salvadori loves tp travel by motorcycle and loves to write. Combining the two has given him a thoroughly satisfying life. His contentment and joy of living shine through this collection of columns from the past two decades.
Don't expect a detailed travel guide to places near and far, but rather a guide to the enjoyment of travelling, especially by motorcycle. These tales are spun by an observant and experienced traveler who can make a quick ride on the back roads near his home just as entertaining as a trip across the country. Meet some of the characters he has encountered, laugh with him at some of his blunders, and join him for bread, cheese, wine, and a stupendous vista somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of humanity.
Though he does admit to being destination-oriented at times, many of his columns focus on the little things that make the journey itself the most memorable—the rythm of the road, the music of the bike, the beauty of the ride, and the exhilaration of being at one with the bike and the road.
For those Rider fans who always turn to his column first, he is considered one of their personal friends. He has inspired many a motorcyclist to take a more leisurely pace and to be more appreciative of the surrounding countryside.
Salvadori's informal style and clear-eyed view make reading these 101 Road Tales like listening to the stories of a well-travelled and entertaining dinner guest.
About the Author
Clement Salvadori bought his first motorcycle as a teenager and has been riding ever since—in more than 70 countries on six continents.
After a brief career as a diplomat with the U.S. Department of State, he found that writing and travelling by motorcycle suited him better. He has since authored more than a thousand articles, including the monthly "Road Rales" column in Rider magazine, as well as several motorcycle-related books.
He lives in southern California with his wife and several cats and works at home, where he commutes to his upstairs office by climbing 22 stairs; occasionally he extends his commute by taking a brisk 50-mile ride after breakfast.
