ENGINE
CYLINDER HEAD | REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Note: The engine must be completely cool before beginning this procedure.
REMOVAL (Refer to illustrations 12.10a, 12.10b, 12.12a and 12.12b)
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Drain the coolant from the engine block and radiator (see Chapter 1).
Drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter (see Chapter 1).
On fuel injected models, relieve the fuel system pressure (see Chapter 4).
Remove the intake manifold (see Section 5).
Remove the exhaust manifold (see Section 6).
Remove the timing belt and camshaft sprocket (see Section 7).
Remove the camshaft and rocker arm assembly.
Check the cylinder head. Label and remove any remaining items such as coolant fittings, tubes, cables, hoses and wires. At this point the head should be ready for removal.
POWER STEERING PUMP | REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Depending on the model, the pump will be easier to remove from above or from underneath the vehicle. If it's down low, raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands.
Disconnect the fluid hoses at the pump. Note the difference between the pressure and the return hoses. Cap both hoses to prevent leakage or contamination.
Remove the pump mounting bolts. If they're different diameters or lengths, note which hole they go to. Remove the pump.
Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to bleed the power steering system (see next Section) and adjust the drivebelt tension (see Chapter 1).
