RADIATOR | REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
(Refer to illustrations 5.9a, 5.9b, 5.10 and 5.11) Warning: If vehicle is equipped with airbags, refer to Chapter 12 to disarm the airbag system prior to performing any work described below.
  1. Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.
  2. Drain the coolant from the radiator (see Chapter 1).
  3. Remove the "sight shield" (the plastic protector attached to the upper crossmember).
  4. Unscrew and remove the integral relay control assembly (see Section 4). It's not necessary to unplug it - just set it aside.
  5. Loosen the hose clamp and detach the upper hose from the radiator.
  6. Detach the overflow hose from the radiator filler neck.
  7. Unplug the alternator wire harness assembly from the alternator and detach it from the shroud, then set it aside.
  8. Remove the electric cooling fan and shroud assembly (see Section 4).
  9. If your vehicle is equipped with an automatic transaxle, disconnect the upper and lower oil cooler line fittings. Note: Some vehicles are equipped with special oil cooler line fittings which must be detached with cooler line disconnect tool T82L-9500-AH (see illustrations). Cap the fittings and the lines to prevent leakage.
  10. Working underneath the vehicle, remove the two bracket bolts that attach the transaxle oil cooler lines to the bottom edge of the radiator (see illustration).

ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS
STARTER MOTOR | REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
(Refer to illustrations 20.3 and 20.5)
  1. Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.
  2. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands.
  3. Disconnect the large cable from the terminal on the starter motor (see illustration).
  4. Remove the two bolts attaching the rear support bracket (see illustration 20.3) and detach the bracket.
  5. On four-cylinder engines, remove the three starter-to-bellhousing bolts. On V6 engines, remove the two starter-to-bellhousing bolts. Note that a ground cable is attached to the upper starter stud bolt (see illustration).
