NOTE: For spark plug removal, refer to illustrations 5.7, 5.8, 5.10 and 5.12.

7. Disconnect the ground strap, the ACIS system components (see Chapter 6), the electrical connectors and the vacuum lines (see illustration) from the upper intake manifold. Label each connector using tape and a market to ensure correct reassembly.
8. Remove the throttle body mounting nuts (see illustration).
9. Unbolt the upper intake manifold brace(s) at the back of the upper intake manifold assembly.
10. Remove the bolts and nuts mounting the upper intake manifold to the lower intake manifold (see illustration).
11. Remove the two Torx mounting studs (A) from the cylinder head (see illustration 5.10).
12. Move the upper intake manifold to the side and separate it from the throttle body and lower intake manifold (see illustration).
FOR ALL OTHER PROCEDURES
13. Disconnect the ground strap, the ACIS system components (see Chapter 6), the electrical connectors, vacuum lines (see illustration 5.7) and coolant bypass hoses from the upper intake manifold/throttle body assembly.

DRIVEAXLE OIL SEALS | REPLACEMENT
(Refer to illustrations 6.4 and 6.6)

1. Fluid leaks occasionally occur due to wear of the driveaxle oil seals. Replacement of these seals is relatively easy, since the repairs can be performed without removing the transaxle from the vehicle.
2. The driveaxle oil seals are located in either sides of the transaxle, where the driveaxle shaft is splined into the differential. If leakage at the seal is suspected, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. If the seal is leaking, fluid will be found on the side of the transaxle.
3. Remove the driveaxle (see Chapter 8). If you're replacing the right side driveaxle seal, remove the intermediate shaft and the driveaxle assembly as a single unit.
4. Using a screwdriver or pry bar, carefully pry the oil seal out of the transaxle bore (see illustration).
5. If the oil seal cannot be removed with a screwdriver or pry bar, a special oil seal removal tool (available at auto parts stores) will be required.
6. Using a seal driver or a large deep socket as drift, install the new oil seal. Drive it into the bore squarely and make sure that it is completely seated (see illustration). Lubricate the lip of the new seal with multi-purpose grease.
7. Install the driveaxle assembly (see Chapter 8). Be careful not to damage the lip of the new seal.
