This procedure requires the temporary installation of one of the cylinder heads, cam, sprocket and cam holders.

Refer to Figure 130 for this procedure.

1. Split the crankcase and remove the crankcase as described in this chapter.



2. Inspect the condition of the links on the cam chain.



3. Install one of the cylinder heads as described in this chapter.



4. Install the cam sprocket onto one of the camshafts.



5. Place the cam chain onto the cam sprocket and install the cam onto the cylinder head.



6. Secure the cam with the 2 cam holders as described in this chapter.



7. Align the index marks on the cam sprocket (installed on the cam) with the top surface of the cylinder head.



8. Place another cam sprocket onto the opposite end of the cam chain. Align the index marks on the second cam sprocket so they are parallel to the index marks on the sprocket installed in the cylinder head.



9. With the index marks properly aligned, attach a scale (a portable fish scale will do) to the loose sprocket. Apply 13 kg (29 lb.) of tension to the components.
   
   Measure the distance between the 2 sprockets as shown in Figure 130. Replace the chain if the length exceeds the wear limit indicated in Table 1.



10. Remove the cam, sprocket and cam chain. Repeat 4-9 for the other cam chain.
