Book Excerpt: 1987-2013 Yamaha Warrior/Raptor YFM350 Repair Manual TRANSMISSION AND INTERNAL SHIFT MECHANISM

The transmission on all models provides six speeds forward and one speed in reverse. To gain access to the transmission and internal shift mechanism it is necessary to remove the engine and split the crankcase (Chapter Five). Once the crankcase has been split, removal of the transmission, reverse gears, shift drums and forks is a simple task of pulling the assemblies up and out of the crankcase. Transmission gear ratios are listed in Table 1. Transmission service specifications are listed in Table 2. Both tables are found at the end of the chapter.

TRANSMISSION/REVERSE SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION With the forward and reverse systems, there are 10 different assemblies in the transmission that will be covered in this chapter. The different assemblies are identified in Figure 1 and listed as follows:

1. Reverse shift drum.
2. Reverse shift fork shaft.
3. Output axle.
4. Reverse axle.
5. Counter axle.
6. Drive axle.
7. Main axle.
8. Shift fork.
9. Shift fork.
10. Forward shift drum.

STARTER BRUSH REPLACEMENT | REPLACE BOTH BRUSHES AS A SET

1. Remove the terminal nut (Figure 37). Then slide off the insulator and O-ring (Figure 38).
2. Push the terminal (Figure 39) through the starter housing and remove the brush plate assembly.
3. The terminal bolt and brush (A, Figure 40) are replaced as an assembly. Remove the terminal bolt and brush and replace it.
4. The other brush (B, Figure 40) is soldered to the brush plate. To replace it:
1. Heat the brush connection with a soldering iron or gun and remove it.
2. Install the new brush so that its wire routed in the same direction.
