ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP | OPERATION
(See Figures 2, 3 and 4) 1977-1983 WITH A/C, 1979-1983 CAB/CHASSIS AND 1984-1986 ALL MODELS An electric fuel pump is uses on these models. The pump is mounted on a bracket located on the right frame rail next to the fuel tank. There is a filter mounted in the body of the pump, which does not normally require service. The pump can be disassembled, if necessary, but all electronic parts within the body (one transistor, two diodes, and three resistors) must be replaced. REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
(See Figures 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9)

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the fuel pump protector.
3. Remove the inlet and outlet hoses, catching the fuel that escapes in a metal container.
4. Disconnect the wiring harness at the connector.
5. Remove the two bolts securing the pump to the bracket and remove the pump.
TO INSTALL
6. Unscrew the pump end cover and slide out the pump filter. Check that the filter is not clogged and then replace it.
7. Install the pump in the bracket and tighten the mounting screws.
8. Connect the wiring harness and the fuel lines.
9. Install the pump protector and reconnect the battery cable. Run the engine and check for leaks.

TESTING (See Figures 10 thru 18)

1. Disconnect the hose from the pump outlet at the pump.
2. Connect a length of hose to the outlet. The hose should have an inside diameter of 6mm (0.24 in.). The diameter of the hose is important for accurate measurements.

DRIVE TRAIN

TRANSFER CASE | REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION 1981-1986 MODEL T100L (720-D SERIES)
(See Figure 51)

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise the vehicle and support it with jackstands.
3. Remove the transfer case shield.
4. Remove the primary driveshaft securing nuts.
5. Remove the front and rear driveshafts.
6. Disconnect the 4wd switch wire.
7. Disconnect the speedometer cable.
8. Remove the exhaust pipe.
9. Support the transfer case with a jack.
10. Temporarily loosen the transfer case insulator bolts.
11. Remove the shift lever rubber boot from the floor.
12. Unbolt and remove the transfer case and primary driveshaft from the vehicle. Remove the insulators from the transfer case.
