This high-quality, reprint of the factory-written service manual supplement covers 1959-1960 Chevy passenger cars.

Is it finally time to tackle the projects on your classic 1959 or 1960 Chevy? If the answer is yes, then be sure the first tool you have in hand is this shop manual supplement (as well as the previous years manual...please see the yellow highlighted section just below). There is no better source for service and repair of these models than these manuals. After all, they were written by Chevrolet Motor Division to be used by their mechanics, back when these cars were new. These books cover all of the major areas of the vehicle. They are well written, and the detailed text has also been accompanied by a large number and variety of visual aids. There are tables, black and white photos, illustrations, exploded views, cutaway views and more. Together, you'll find the knowledge and confidence to take on that list of projects for your vintage Chev.

NOTE: This 544 page manual was written to be used as a supplement. It covers the changes and updates for the 1959 and 1960 models. It was designed to be used in conjunction with the 1958 Chevrolet Passenger Car Shop Manual. For details on that manual, please click here...1958 Chevrolet Passenger Car Shop Manual.

During the 1950s, especially with models starting in 1955, Chevrolet was known for rolling out cars which featured loads of style. The 1959 and 1960 models were no different. Bold updates to the tailfins saw them flowing out from the middle of the trunk, instead of just rising up from the rear quarters. These bold, bat-wing looking fins served to form an aggressive "V" at the back of the car, and integrated well with the new teardrop-shaped tail lights in 1959, as well as the traditional round lights which returned for the 1960 models. Whether yours needs a simple tune-up, or a major overhaul, these manuals have the specifications and instructions to get the jobs done.

Book Excerpt: 1959-1960 Chevy Passenger Car Shop Manual Supplement CLUTCH: GENERAL DESCRIPTION
All Chevy Passenger engines for 1959 use the diaphragm spring type clutch assembly. The diaphragm spring clutch used on all six cylinder standard transmission models, and on the 283 cubic inch two and four barrel carburetor equipped V-8 engines, are the same for 1959 as were used in 1958, with the exception of the clutch used on all 348 cubic inch V-8 passenger car engines, equipped with three and four speed transmissions. The 348 cubic inch V-8 engine clutch is basically the same as used on 283 cubic inch V-8 engines, except for a larger load capacity and diameter. It is a single plate, heavy-duty diaphragm spring, dry disc type, consisting of two basic assemblies. The clutch diaphragm spring fingers have 6 fingers bent upward, with weights attached, and 12 long fingers. The centrifugal effect on these fingers and weights increases plate load as engine speed increases. The driven disc and facing assembly and cover, pressure plate and diaphragm spring make a complete assembly.

This manual is perfect for the restorer or anyone working on a 1959 or 1960 Chevy. Clear illustrations show exploded views as well as component details, plus specs on engine data, engine torque, carburetion, and more. Subject: 1959-1960 Chevy passenger cars.
