Penta started designing and manufacturing engines in the early 1900s. By the mid 1930s, Penta became a division of the Volvo Group, and Volvo Penta was born.
Volvo Penta manufactures some of the most popular sterndrive units available, and The Motor Bookstore sells do-it-yourself repair manuals for Volvo Penta sterndrives by Clymer and Seloc.
These manuals allow home mechanics to perform maintenance, service and repairs on their boat engines and drive units at home, while saving time and money. Sterndrives are also referred to as I/O drives (Inboard-Outboard).
