The '73 oil embargo quickly caused consumers to modify opinions about their automotive options, but it took a few years for Detroit to adapt. In 1974, American cars were still, well...HUGE. If you're accustomed to a modern car, slipping behind the wheel of a '74 Caddy must feel like surreal experience. Looking across what must seem like an acre of sheet metal, you might wonder how on earth you're ever going to get approximately two and a half tons of America's finest steel into motion. Luckily, Cadillac wasn't shy when it came to engines. You should know that when the SMALL engine in the line-up is a monstrous 472 cubic inches, you're going to be alright. The Eldorado upped the ante and gave you a staggering 500 cubic inches (and through front wheel drive no less!). Push firmly down on the fun pedal, open up all of that Quadrajet carburetor and watch the hood rocket up toward the sky. It's probably something like being on the bridge of an oil tanker ship and watching it climb a big wave. When you're ready to get (and keep) your good-looking, big, luxurious American dream performing at its best, this guide is the ultimate source.

Did you know that two different fan designs were used to meet the cooling requirements of '74 Cadillac models? You'd know that (and a whole lot more) if you owned this manual and flipped to the engine cooling section 6-3. All cars equipped with the standard heating system used a seven bladed fan with flexible blades. The cars equipped with air conditioning featured a seven bladed solid fan and thermostatic clutch. You'd also learn that cars equipped with the optional trailer towing package or heavy-duty cooling package used a seven bladed flexible fan without fan clutch regardless of whether air conditioning was ordered or not. The limousine and commercial chassis cars also used a seven bladed flexible fan. Not only do you get excellent descriptions of all of the cooling system components, but more importantly, you'll have a troubleshooting diagnosis chart, testing procedures, service details, removal and installation instructions, some disassembly, rebuild and assembly instructions, adjustments and factory specifications. You'll discover that high-level of detail is found for all of the vehicle systems covered in this beautiful, 1974 Cadillac shop manual reprint.
