Like the other books in the series, we really appreciate the hard work American Motors put into 1972 AMC Factory Repair Manual (AMX, Gremlin, Javelin, Matador, Hornet, Ambassador). The library was recently licensed for reprint and the Motor Bookstore is excited to have this reprint of the original OEM Part Number AM-72-1001. This 1972 factory shop repair manual was developed by pros by AMC for the pros in AMC dealerships.
This manual features all the info you need to work on the autos produced by AMC that year. Find info on brakes, suspensions, clutch, engine, transmission, steering, tires, exhaust systems and electrical wiring. Step-by-step instructions are accompanied by photos and diagrams. Many are exploded, making operation description easier to follow. The 1972 AMC factory shop repair manual has comprehensive details on component removal, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and adjustment.
1972 American Motors MODELS COVERED:
- Hornet (Sportabout and SST)
- Javelin & Javelin SST
- Ambassador Brougham, Ambassador SST
We cannot recommend these manuals to the novice / beginner DIY mechanic. This material was designed for professionals that have a history with mechanics and bodywork. For instance, there are plenty of illustrations in the 1972 AMC factory shop repair manual to help visualize the process, but no information about what tools to use or techniques for how to use the tools as part of the repair procedure. Providing this low level hand holding info is common among manuals produced by Chilton or Haynes. AMC designed their manuals understanding their own mechanics wouldn’t necessarily need that information. For part numbers, you will have to consult a parts book.
In the right hands, there’s no doubt that 1972 AMC Factory Repair Manual (AMX, Gremlin, Javelin, Matador, Hornet, Ambassador) will make repair and restoration a simplified process for everything from exterior moldings to power windows.
