Buying From The Motor Bookstore
I guess it is only fair to answer a question that still gets asked literally hundreds of times, year after year. And with so many "fly-by-nights" all over the Web, allegedly selling merchandise online, a valid one.
Question: Are you a real business?
Answer: Yes! The Motor Bookstore is a real business.
We operate out of our own building located in DeBary, Florida, U.S.A., where we stock 99.9% of the automotive repair manuals, restoration guides and other books and CD-ROMs we offer through www.themotorbookstore.com.
We "opened" the virtual doors back in 1997, but even before then we were doing stuff online, a lot slower mind you, since back in the "B.C." (Before Cable) days of the last century, we all had to dial-up through slow and noisy modems in order to get online.
My first attempt at creating a website was sometime in 1995 when I launched a very basic site for Motorcycle Shopper, a buy-sell-trade motorcycle magazine I started in 1990 from the guest bedroom in my Deltona, Florida home. From those humble beginnings, The Motor Bookstore was born — first, as a small insert in the magazine — then, through the hard and dedicated work of a small group of individuals, into the comprehensive automotive DIY repair and service resource website you're visiting today.

Ordering online. Buy with confidence. The Motor Bookstore uses industry-standard, secure SSL encryption to accept your credit card purchase. Trust Guard checks the store's certificate daily to insure integrity and credit card industry compliance.
Ordering by phone. We are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern Time. You may place your order by calling us at 1-800-982-4599 (US and Canada only); all others please call +(386) 668-6363. To expedite your order and avoid mistakes, please use item numbers available on our website and have your credit or debit card ready.
Ordering by fax. [order form] Orders submitted via fax must include all personal info such as complete name, mailing address, zip or postal code, if appropriate, item description, item number and quantity. You must also include the credit card number, CVV number (back of the card), and the expiration date.
Ordering by mail. [order form] If you prefer, you may send a money order or a cashier's check to the address below (no personal checks). Orders accompanied by a money order are processed when received. To prevent delays, make sure that your order includes item description, item number and quantity, as well as correct postage and sales tax (Florida residents only). Also make sure you include your name, address and phone number.
Local pick up. Available for residents of Volusia county and surrounding Central Florida areas. Please call us before coming in to make sure the item is in stock. We will waive shipping charges and make arrangements for you to pick-up your merchandise. Pick-up orders are subject to 6.5% sales tax.
Alternate shipping methods. FedEx, DHL, etc. can be used in special cases, and only if you have a valid account with the carrier. Orders shipped via an alternate carrier are subject to a non-refundable $10 handling fee.
Sales tax. Items sold for delivery in the state of Florida, including shipping charges, are subject to sales tax. (Florida Dept. of Revenue, Article #1738).
Paying for your order. We accept credit and debit cards. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, money orders and cashier's checks.
Returns. Some items are non-returnable, and those that are, must be in new, resalable condition. A 20% re-stocking fee applies to all returned items. Customers are responsible for return shipping charges. If we make a mistake and send you the wrong book, we will pay for the return postage and waive the restocking fee.
Returned items must be packed in a padded envelope or box to prevent damage. Return merchandise to the address shown below within 30 days of order. You must obtain a Return Authorization number before returning merchandise, please call us at 1-800-982-4599 to obtain a Return Authorization number.
Backorders. We make every effort to stock enough inventory so backorders are kept to a minimum. However, from time to time, any title may be unavailable due to high sales or limited availability from our suppliers. We ship backorders as soon as we receive the product. You will be notified via email in case of a backorder.
Special orders. For example, a book that may not be readily available for shipping. While some of these books might be hard to find, others are more easily obtained. We will contact you about the status of any special order you place with us. Special order items are non-returnable and must be pre-paid.
Purchase orders. Accepted only from bona fide schools, colleges, universities, and libraries. Please call us at 386-668-6363 for details, or you may fax your purchase order to 386-668-6383.
New Old Stock (N.O.S.) These manuals or books may show signs of age such as dust, discoloring, and/or deterioration, as well as signs of handling, in spite of being unread. New old stock items are non-returnable.
Sale and close-outs. All sales final. No returns or exchange on sale or close-out items.
Trade orders. Accepted from qualified U.S.-based businesses such as book sellers, motorcycle shops, auto parts stores, etc. Please download and complete our Trade Account Application Form, then fax or mail to us along with a copy of your Reseller's Permit.
Please include a signed letter requesting a Trade Account with The Motor Bookstore. Letter must be printed in your company's letterhead. Upon acceptance of your application, we will contact you with ordering instructions. Trade accounts must order at least $100 in merchandise per order to qualify for the additional 10% trade discount.
