The 1986-2009 Hyundai Excel, Accent Repair Manual by Haynes, covers models indicated.
This manual contains information of use to Hyundai car owners that allows them to perform their own service and maintenance, like an oil change, all the way to engine teardown and rebuild.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Chapter 2A covers in-vehicle engine repair procedures for all engines. Information concerning engine removal and installation and engine overhaul can be found in Chapter 2B.
The following repair procedures are based on the assumption that the engine is installed in the vehicle with all accessories connected.
If the engine has been removed from the vehicle and mounted on a stand, the preliminary disassembly information which precedes each operation may be ignored.
ENGINE DESCRIPTION
The engines are in-line four cylinder units with either a single-overhead camshaft (SOHC) or a double-overhead camshaft (DOHC).
They are mounted transversely in one of two arrangements: On 1994 and earlier models, the front of the engine faces the left-hand side of the vehicle and the transaxle is mounted on the right-hand side of the vehicle.
On 1995 and later models, the front of the engine faces the right-hand side of the vehicle and the transaxle is mounted on the left-hand side.
On SOHC engines, the camshaft actuates the valves by rocker arms mounted on two shafts (intake and exhaust) which are bolted to the cylinder head above the camshaft. On DOHC engines, the valves are actuated directly by the camshafts.
