Book Excerpt: 2002-2009 Yamaha Four-Stroke FX, FX140, VX Personal Watercraft Repair Manual JET PUMP LUBRICATION
The lubricant for the bearings and seals in the impeller housing is applied during the assembly procedure as described in Chapter Five. The lubricant requires changing only if the unit must be disassembled for repair. On FX models, the intermediate bearing housing portion of the jet pump is lubricated using the dedicated grease fitting and extension hose. On VX models, the intermediate housing must be disassembled to properly lubricate the jet pump components. However, the intermediate housing does not require periodic lubrication on VX models. The intermediate housing used on FX models must be lubricated at the initial 10 hours of operation, at the first 100 hours of operation or one year. After the first year, lubricate the intermediate housing at each 100 hours of operation or once a year, whichever occurs first. This procedure requires a grease pump.
  1. Remove the seat and locate the lubricant hose fitting (Figure 35) just to the starboard side of the oil tank.
  2. Remove the rubber cap from the grease fitting. Connect the grease pump onto the fitting. Refer to the following: a. If at the initial 10 hours of use, pump 33.0-35.0 cm³ (1.12-1.18 oz.) of Yamaha Marine Grease into the fitting. b. If at the 100 hours of use or one year, pump 6.0-8.0 cm³ (0.20-0.27 oz.) of Yamaha Marine Grease into the fitting.
  3. Remove the grease pump and make sure the rubber cover fits fully over the grease fitting.
  4. Install the seat.
