Important vehicle coverage note: In 2005, Volkswagen of America instituted a mid-year platform change for the Jetta, resulting in Jetta models built in the first half of 2005 being based on the A4 platform while Jetta models built in the last half of 2005 are built on the A5 platform. You can verify whether your Jetta is an A4 or A5 platform by referring to the 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This can be found at the base of the windshield on the driver's side. If the 7th and 8th digits of your VIN are "1K", you have an A5 platform Jetta and this manual will cover your car. If the 7th and 8th digits read "1J" or "9M", you have an A4 platform Jetta and your car is covered in the Volkswagen Golf, Jetta, GTI 1999-2005, Jetta Wagon 2001-2005 Repair Manual on CD-ROM or the Volkswagen Jetta, Golf, GTI Service Manual 1999-2005.
