ENGINE AND ENGINE OVERHAUL
ENGINE ELECTRICAL | IGNITION COIL

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
(See Figures 1, 2 and 3)
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.


  2. Unplug or unfasten all the wires from the coil (note the location of all electrical connectors for correct installation.


  3. Remove the condenser connector from the coil, if equipped.


  4. Unbolt and remove the coil assembly.


  5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Make sure that the coil wire is fully inserted into the terminal.

ENGINE ELECTRICAL | IGNITION MODULE

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION | DURASPARK TYPE MODULES
(See Figure 4)

NOTE: Refer to Section 2 for testing procedures.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.


  2. Remove the fasteners that attach the module to the fender or firewall.


  3. Pull apart the wire harness connectors. When unplugging the connectors, pull them apart with a firm, straight pull, NEVER PRY THEM APART! This may damage the wire harness or connector.


  4. INSTALLATION

  5. Before connecting the wire harness(s), coat the mating ends with silicone dielectric grease to waterproof the connection. Press the connectors together firmly to overcome any vacuum lock caused by the grease.


  6. Secure the model to the fender or firewall, using the retaining hardware removed earlier.


  7. Connect the negative battery cable.


  8. Start the engine to check that the module functions correctly.


  9. NOTE: If the locking tabs weaken or break, secure the connection with electrical tape or tie straps.

1971-1972 MODELS
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.


  2. Press the glove compartment door stops inward and allow the door to hang by the hinge.


  3. Remove the control panel from the instrument panel.


  4. Disconnect the cable housing from the control assembly and disengage the cable from the temperature control lever.


  5. Working through the glove compartment opening, disconnect the cable from the plenum temperature blend door crank arm and cable mounting bracket.


  6. Note the cable routing and remove the cable from the vehicle.
