Book Excerpt: 1996-1999 Suzuki GSXR750 Repair Manual LUBRICATION, MAINTENANCE AND TUNE-UP
REAR DISC BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT Adjust the brake pedal height at the interval listed in Table 1. The pedal height will change with brake pad wear as the hydraulic fluid level lowers in the master cylinder. The top of the brake pedal (A, Figure 47) should be positioned below the top surface of the foot peg (B, Figure 47) by the amount listed in Table 5. If the pedal height is incorrect, perform the following:
  1. Place the bike on level ground on the side stand.
  2. Make sure the brake pedal is in the at-rest position.
  3. At the rear brake master cylinder, loosen the locknut (A, Figure 48) and turn the pushrod (B, Figure 48) in either direction until the correct dimension, listed in Table 5, is achieved.
  4. Tighten the pushrod locknut to the torque specification listed in Table 4.

ENGINE LOWER END
ENGINE BREAK-IN After replacing top end components or performing major lower end work, break in the engine just as though it were new. The performance and service life of the engine depends greatly on a careful and sensible break-in. During break-in, oil consumption will be higher than normal. It is important to check and correct the oil level frequently (Chapter Three). Never allow the oil level to drop below the minimum level. If the oil level is low, the oil will become overheated resulting in insufficient lubrication and increased wear. Suzuki designates the first 10 hours of the vehicle operation as the break-in period. During this period, do not exceed half throttle. After the break-in period, change the engine oil and filter as described in Chapter Three. It is essential to perform this service to remove all the particles produced during break-in from the lubrication system. The small added expense is a smart investment that will pay off in increased engine life.
