CHASSIS ELECTRICAL
SPEEDOMETER SENSOR | REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE (See Figure 9)
  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.


  2. The speed sensor is located on top of the governor assembly, horizontally mounted.


  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the speed sensor.


  4. Remove the sensor retaining clip.


  5. Remove the sensor by gently twisting and pulling it out of the governor housing.


  6. TO INSTALL

  7. Install a new O-ring on the sensor and lubricate with transmission fluid.


  8. Install the drive gear to the sensor and position assembly into the governor housing.


  9. Insert the retaining clip into the housing and reconnect the electrical connector.


  10. Reconnect the negative (-) battery cable and drive the vehicle to check for proper operation.
MANUAL TRANSAXLE
  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.


  2. The speed sensor is located on top of the differential portion of the transaxle housing, vertically mounted.


  3. Remove the sensor bolt and retainer.


  4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.


  5. Remove the sensor by gently twisting and pulling it out of the transaxle.


  6. TO INSTALL

  7. Install a new O-ring seal on the sensor and lubricate with automatic transmission fluid.


  8. Install the drive gear to the sensor and position assembly into the transaxle housing.


  9. Install the sensor retainer and bolt. Torque the bolt to 45 inch.lb. (5 Nm).


  10. Reconnect the electrical connector and negative (-) battery cable.


  11. Drive the vehicle to check for proper operation.

BODY | INTERIOR
DOOR TRIM PANELS | REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
(See Figures 26 and 27)
  1. Remove the armrest by removing the upper armrest plug and three attaching screws.


  2. Remove the window regulator handle using a regulator handle remove tool J-9886 or equivalent.


  3. Remove the remote door handle bezel.


  4. Remove the plastic retainers form the perimeter of the door using a door panel removing tool J-9886 or equivalent. Remove the trim panel by pulling outward to disengage from the retainer at the beltline.


  5. NOTE: Do not force the trim panel if it will not remove easily. Damage to the panel retainer holes may result, causing an irregular fit after installation.

  6. Disconnect the electrical connections and mirror control cable, if so equipped.
TO INSTALL
  1. Inspect the panel retainers for damage and proper alignment. To correct, insert the flange into the hole and rotate the retainer to engage.


  2. Install the remote control mirror cable and wiring harness, if so equipped.


  3. Install the trim panel by inserting the top of the panel into the retainer, insert the remote door handle through the panel, align the retainer with the holes in the door and tap into place with the palm of your hand or a clean rubber mallet. DO NOT FORCE.


  4. Install the door handle bezel, lock knob, window regulator handle and armrest.
