DRIVE TRAIN
EXTENSION HOUSING SEAL | REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
(See Figure 24)
  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.

  2. Matchmark the driveshaft end yoke and rear axle companion flange to assure proper positioning during assembly. Remove the driveshaft.

  3. Remove the oil seal from the extension housing, using seal remover T71P-7657-A or equivalent.

  4. TO INSTALL

Before installing the replacement seal, inspect the sealing surface of the universal joint yoke for scores. If scoring is found, replace the yoke.

  5. Install the new seal, using seal installer T74P-77052-A or equivalent. Coat the inside diameter at the end of the rubber boot portion of the seal with long-life lubricant (C1AZ-19590-BA or equivalent).

  6. Align the matchmarks and install the driveshaft.

  7. Lower the vehicle.

U-JOINT REPLACEMENT
SINGLE CARDAN TYPE U-JOINT
(See Figures 38 and 39)
  1. Remove the driveshaft.

  2. If the front yoke is to be disassembled, match mark the driveshaft and sliding splined yoke (transmission yoke) so that driveline balance is preserved upon reassembly. Remove the snap rings which retain the bearing caps.

  3. Select two sockets, one small enough to pass through the yoke holes for the bearing caps, the other large enough to receive the bearing caps.

  4. Using a vise or a press, position the small and large sockets on either side of the U-joint. Press in on the smaller socket so that it presses the opposite bearing cap out of the yoke and into the larger socket. If the cap does not come all the way out, grasp it with a pair of pliers and work it out.
