Book Excerpt: John Deere Tractor Repair Manual 1020, 1520, 1530, 2020, 2030 POWER STEERING SYSTEM
The power steering system of series 1020 and 2020, prior to tractor serial number 45200, is an open center valve type and consists of a separate gear type pump, a valve and steering cylinder and steering linkage. The power steering system of series 1020 and 2020, tractor serial number 45200 and up, is a closed center type having the same basic mechanical components as the earlier open center type. However, the separate gear type pump is not used and the pressurized oil is furnished by the main hydraulic pump via a priority type pressure control valve which is bolted to lower right side of clutch housing.

ENGINE CLUTCH: ADJUSTMENT Series 2020 Low Profile
107. Clutch adjust. To check and adjust clutch, disengage clutch lever (fully forward) and remove the large button plug from left side of clutch housing. See Fig. 102. Measure the clearance between clutch throw-out bearing and clutch fingers which should be 0.090. If clearance is not correct loosen the locking screw, then turn adjusting screw as required. Tighten locking screw and jam nut on adjusting screw and install button plug. 108. Linkage adjust. If linkage has been disconnected, or disassembled, adjust linkage as follows: Back out throw-out bearing adjusting screw until rounded end is flush with lever. Back out locking screw, then adjust clutch lever stop screw, shown in Fig. 103, until clutch lever is in a straight up and down position. Engage clutch lever, then position a straightedge between centers of spring yoke pin and clutch arm pin and measure distance between straightedge and center of upper link pin. (See Fig. 104). This distance should be 1/2-5/8 inch and if adjustment is necessary, disconnect clutch lever rod and rotate clevis as required.
