AXLE MAIN MEMBER

SERIES A-C-CUB

3. The A, Super A and Cub axle main member pivots on shaft (26- Fig. IH302) which is retained in the axle mounting bracket (steering gear housing base) by clamp bolts.

The AV and Super AV axle main member pivots on a shaft which passes through the steering gear housing base and extends rearward where the shaft bushings (21) which are pressed into the axle main member can be renewed after removing the axle main member from tractor.

The C and Super C front axle main member pivots on shaft (26) which is retained in the axle mounting bracket (41) by pin (40).

Three pre-sized bushings (21) which are pressed into the axle main member and integral stay rod, can be renewed after removing the axle main member from tractor.

SERIES H-M-4-6-9

4. On adjustable axle models shown in Figs. IH304, 305A and 305B, the center member pivots on pin (21) which is pinned in the adapter or lower bolster (19).

Two pivot pin bushings (12) which are passed into the center member, should be reamed after installation to provide a pin to bushing clearance of 0.003-0.006.

On non-adjustable axle models, the unbushed main member pivots on pin (24-Fig. IH305) or (10 - Fig.IH306). Excessive clearance between axle and pivot pin is corrected by renewing the worn part.

MAIN DRIVE BEVEL GEARS AND DIFFERENTIAL
ADJUST BEVEL GEARS - All Models

300. The tooth contact (mesh pattern) and backlash of the main drive bevel gears is controlled by shims on all models.

Tooth contact (mesh pattern) and backlash should be checked and adjusted, if necessary, whenever the transmission is being overhauled, and always when a new pinion or ring gear, or both, are installed.

    Customer Review
    May 30, 2014
I have been able to use this manual to fix 2 issues with my Super A. One was a fuel problem. The carb was not sealing and I finally figured out that the gasket was coming apart (I am not a mechanic). I was able to determine what the problem was and made a new gasket and installed it. Now my tractor will pull the plows at idle instead of half throttle which is too fast to cultivate crops with. I should not be "cultivating down" any more corn. Thanks for the excellent service.

    Too pricey

This book is somewhat helpful but better information is available on the net for free.
    Pros:
    Better than nothing.
    Cons:
Too general. No part number references.
