Book Excerpt: 1986-1993 Honda NS125F, NS125R Repair Manual TUNE-UP AND ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
TRANSMISSION OIL | CHANGE
(Refer to illustration 12.4)
  1. Before draining the oil, take the motorcycle on a short run to warm the transmission oil and ensure it drains fully. Stop the engine and place the motorcycle on its centerstand.
  2. Remove the belly fairing (NS125F) or left-hand lower fairing panel (NS125R) as described in Chapter 8.
  3. Position a clean drain pan below the oil drain bolt, located in the bottom of the crankcase left-hand side. Unscrew the oil filler cap to vent the transmission and act as a reminder that there is no oil in the transmission.
  4. Remove the drain bolt and its washer and allow the oil to drain into the pan (see illustration). Inspect the drain bolt sealing washer; if damaged or compressed, replace it with a new one.
  5. When the oil has fully drained, install the drain bolt and tighten it securely; avoid overtightening, as damage to the crankcase will result.
  6. Before refilling the transmission, check the old oil carefully. If the oil was drained into a clean pan, small pieces of metal or other material can be easily detected. If there are flakes or chips of metal in the oil, then something is drastically wrong internally and the transmission will have to be disassembled for inspection and repair. If there are pieces of fiber-like material in the oil, the clutch is experiencing excessive wear and should be checked.
  7. If inspection of the oil turns up nothing unusual, refill the transmission to the proper level with the recommended type and amount of oil and install the filler cap. Start the engine and let it run for two or three minutes. Shut it off, wait a few minutes, and then check the oil level. If necessary, add more oil to bring the level up to the upper mark. Check around the drain bolt for leaks.

BRAKES, WHEELS AND TIRES
FRONT BRAKE HOSE | INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT INSPECTION
  1. Check the condition of the brake hose at regular intervals.
  2. Twist and flex the rubber hose while looking for cracks, bulges and seeping fluid. Check extra carefully around the areas where the hose connects with the banjo fittings, as these are common areas for hose failure.
  3. Inspect the metal banjo union fittings connected to brake hose. If the fittings are rusted, scratched or cracked, replace the hose complete.
