Book Excerpt: Honda CR80R 1989-1995, CR125R 1989-1991 Repair Manual ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The electrical system consists of an ignition system and the alternator which powers it. The CDI (capacitor discharge ignition) system is a sealed component that regulates timing advance, timing retard and other ignition circuits. The ignition timing is essentially non-adjustable; however, on CR125R models, replacement of certain electrical components will dictate that an initial timing setting be made. See Chapter Three for spark plug service. Table 1 and Table 2 at the end of the chapter provide electrical and tightening torque specifications respectively. Wiring diagrams are at the end of the book.
ALTERNATOR An alternator is a form of electrical generator in which a magnetized field (called a rotor) revolves within or around a set of stationary coils (called a stator). As the rotor revolves, alternating current is induced in the stator. The current is then rectified to direct current and used to operate the ignition system. The rotor on all models is permanently magnetized.

FUEL AND EXHAUST SYSTEMS
The fuel system consists of the fuel tank, fuel shutoff valve and a single Kiehin carburetor. Although the carburetor's function remains essentially unchanged, some changes have occurred and vary from model and year manufactured. The exhaust system consists of an expansion chamber and a muffler. CR125R models are equipped with a special system to vary the effective expansion chamber volume to broaden the power band. On 1989 models this system is called ATAC (Automatic Torque Amplification Chamber). On 1990 and later models, this system is called HPP (Honda Power Port). This chapter includes service procedures for all parts of the fuel and exhaust systems. Tables 1-4 at the end of the chapter provide specifications and tightening torque recommendations.
