Honda ATC250R Single Repair Manual 1981-1984

This chapter contains operating principles and service and test procedures for all electrical components. The electrical system includes an ignition and lighting system.

ALTERNATOR

The alternator is a form of electrical generator in which a magnetized field called a rotor revolves within a set of stationary coils called a stator.

As the rotor revolves, alternating current is induced in the stator. The current is then rectified and used to operate the electrical accessories on the ATC.

The rotor is permanently magnetized.

On drum brake models there are 2 axle bearings in the swing arm and an additional bearing within the brake panel.

REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. Remove the brake panel as described in this chapter.



2. Remove the brake shoes as described in this chapter.



3. Remove the grease seal (Figure 83) from the brake panel.


NOTE: The bearing is damaged during removal and it must be replaced.


4. To remove the bearing (Figure 84) use a soft aluminum or brass drift. From the outside surface (next to the swing arm) of the brake panel, tap the bearing out with a hammer working around the perimeter of the inner race (Figure 85).
