This repair and service manual covers Dodge Ram full-size pickup trucks, 2002-08 covering 1500 for 2002-08 and 2500/3500 for 2003-08, U.S. and Canadian models with 3.7L V6, 4.7L V8, Hemi 5.7L V8, 5.9L V8, 5.9L V8 heavy duty, and 8.0L V10, 5.9L Cummins, and 6.7L inline six-cylinder diesel engines.

You might think that doing your own car maintenance and repair is "Ram tough," but this Chilton Dodge Ram manual will prove otherwise. Maintaining your pickup truck yourself is not only rewarding, but economical. Doing your own repair and maintenance costs a lot less than what you'd pay for the same work done at the mechanic's shop. Troubleshooting manuals for 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7l Hemi are invaluable resources. The 464-page manual is loaded with informative photos and diagrams to help you with tune-up and routine maintenance, engine and overhaul procedures, emissions and engine control systems, the clutch and driveline, the suspension and steering systems and every other part of your Dodge pickup. Note: this manual does not include info on SRT-10 models.
Book Excerpt: 2002-2008 Dodge Ram Pickup Trucks Repair Manual TUNE-UP GENERAL INFORMATION
The term tune-up is used in this manual to represent a combination of individual operations rather than one specific procedure. If, from the time the vehicle is new, the routine maintenance schedule is followed closely and frequent checks are made of fluid levels and high wear items, as suggested throughout this manual, the engine will be kept in relatively good running condition and the need for additional work will be minimized. More likely than not, however, there will be times when the engine is running poorly due to lack of regular maintenance. This is even more likely if a used vehicle, which has not received regular and frequent maintenance checks, is purchased. In such cases, an engine tune-up will be needed outside of the regular routine maintenance intervals. The first step in any tune-up or diagnostic procedure to help correct a poor running engine is a cylinder compression check. A compression check (see Chapter 2E) will help determine the condition of internal engine components and should be used as a guide for tune-up and repair procedures. If, for instance, a compression check indicates serious internal engine wear, a conventional tune-up will not improve the performance of the engine and would be a waste of time and money. Because of its importance, the compression check should be done by someone with the right equipment and the knowledge to use it properly. The following procedures are those more often needed to bring a generally poor running engine back into a proper state of tune.

Book Excerpt: HEMI ENGINES GENERAL INFORMATION
This part of Chapter 2 is devoted to in-vehicle repair procedures for Hemi engines. All info concerning engine removal and installation and engine overhaul can be found in Part E of this Chapter. Since the repair procedures included in this Part are based on the assumption that the engine is still installed in the vehicle, it they are being used during a complete engine overhaul (with the engine already out of the vehicle and on a stand), many of the steps included here will not apply. These Hemi engines use a cast iron engine block with aluminum cylinder heads and intake manifold. The cylinder banks are positioned at a 90-degree angle with the camshaft mounted high in the engine block. The valvetrain includes roller lifters, with pushrods positioned between the camshaft and rocker arms in a nearly horizontal plane. The camshaft can only be removed after the cylinder heads and valvetrain components (rocker arms, pushrods and lifters) have been removed.
