From the Publisher
The Cougar was quite probably Mercury's most interesting model in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Aimed at the ponycar buyer rather than the traditional muscle-car market, it was always intended to be a slightly bigger, slightly more luxurious equivalent of the Mustang. Indeed, the first models (for the 1967 season) were based to a degree on the Mustang.
Properly optioned, the Cougar was a highly desirable piece of machinery. The assessments reprinted in this book show why it has an enduring appeal for enthusiasts, nearly three decades after the last of the ponycar Cougars was built.
